Welcome to our first blog post!
We wanted to start this blog as a way of documenting the journey of our, not-so-little, seedling of an idea with the hope of seeing it bloom.
We are excited to announce that we have entered ‘What's The Big Idea? 2023 Pitch Competition’ hosted by the Knoxville Entrepreneur Center.
To be honest, doing so was ahead of our plans; however, the chance for mentorship and some seed money was too great of an opportunity to pass up. It has forced us to dig deep in a rather short amount of time on our ideas for Q’mmunity, and we couldn’t be happier about that. Is it perfect and fully fleshed out? No! Far from it. But, regardless of what happens with the competition, we now have a way to start conversations for the next phase.
We see Q’mmunity as bringing together a world of connections, opportunities, resources, and support for the LGBTQ+ community into a single, user-friendly platform. Our goal is to create a fun, secure, and accepting environment for users from all demographics and identities whether they are looking to make a few more friends, discover interesting new activities, or simply meetup for a Saturday hike. We want the platform to provide a variety of opportunities for connection based on location, shared interests, and personal experiences. It will connect users to local events, MeetUps, LGBTQ+ friendly businesses, support groups, and volunteer and mentorship opportunities, and provide access to valuable resources in one place.
We believe that our focus on friendship-first connections makes Q'mmunity stand out from other LGBTQ+ networking apps.
Our goal for entering the competition is to gain a clear direction for the platform’s future and develop a realistic roadmap. We are eager to explore ways to secure funding for development and to monetize the platform in a way that ensures sustainability while allowing us to engage and support as many LGBTQ+ individuals around the world as possible.
And while our team currently consists of three white cis-gay men, two of whom are based in Knoxville and one in Europe. We have plans to grow the development team in a way that is representative and inclusive of the diversity within the LGBTQ+ community with the wide range of skills and expertise that well will need to bring the platform to life. (If you think that is you and you want to talk to us about joining our ideation team, drop us a note on our Team page!)
At this point our website is up, our Instagram page is created, and our pitch video is submitted. Now is time to rally support and votes.
Join us! Like, subscribe, cast your vote, share, and repeat. Follow our journey.
And tell us what Q’mmunity would mean to you.
